Contains photographs of the following military units: 2nd United States (U.S.) Cavalry; 23rd U.S. Infantry. General description of the collection: James K and John B. Thompson photograph collection includes combination of father and son donated by the daughter of Brigadier General John B. Thompson. The greatest number of photos in this holding deal with James K. Thompson and his family, along with his unit and their service in the Philippines, Tangiers and Egypt, Ciria, 1904-1907. Among those images there is a group in which William Howard Taft is pictured and one of Taft and his military staff, one being James K. Thompson and another being Brigadier General Tasker Bliss. The second large grouping deal with John B. Thompson's West Point years, his classmates, cadet activities and graduation in 1914; a very nice portrait photo of Major James K. Thompson, 23rd U.S. Infantry in 1894; a group of photos of John B. Thompson's service on the Mexican Border as a young lieutenant with the 2nd U.S. Cavalry; a number of photos of John B. Thompson on various Army polo teams and at equitation horse shows and jumping tournaments. This excellent collection shows pictorically the U.S. Army between the Spanish-American War and World War I (WWI), and between WWI and World War II (WWII).

General Tasker Howard Bliss was born on December 31, 1853 in Lewisburg, PA. A graduate of West Point, Bliss taught at the academy as well as the Naval War College. Bliss was a delegate to the Paris Peace Conference. He wanted the League of Nations but did not agree with the Treaty of Versailles since he believed that the harsh punishment of Germany would prevent a lasting peace.
